Mueller-Steinhafel

1934


Arthur Mueller mentored John E Steinhafel and they opened Mueller-Steinhafel Furniture at 3565 North Teutonia Avenue in Milwaukee.


1944


Arthur Mueller passes away and John E. Steinhafel buys out Arthur’s half of the company. John then relocates the business to 2430 North 3rd Street and changes the name to Steinhafels Furniture.

Second Generation

1959


Steinhafels builds a 40,000 square foot store on 84th and Capitol Drive. John's five children (Elaine, Jim, Bill, Mary and John) become equal partners.

New Berlin Warehouse

1970 - 1973


Steinhafels opens its second store in 1970 on 84th and Layton Ave. In 1973 Steinhafels builds a 100,000 sq. ft. distribution center in New Berlin, Wisconsin.


1980


Steinhafels opens its third store on Moreland Blvd. in Waukesha, Wisconsin.

Third Generation

1990 - 1999


Ellen, Gary, Mark, Tom, and Steve the third generation joins the family business and ushers in a new era of growth with a diverse line of furniture, innovation, environmental inititives, and community giving. Steinhafels opens stores in Madison and Kenosha.

Corporate Center

2002 - 2008


Steinhafels builds a 420,000-square-foot headquarters featuring corporate offices, a distribution center, and a 120,000 sq.ft. flagship superstore at I-94 and Hwy F in Waukesha. Steinhafels also opens a store in Menomonee Falls and begins manufacturing their in-house line of “Dreams” mattresses in New Berlin.


2011 - 2019


Steinhafels enters Illinois with a 101,000-square-foot superstore at 569 North Milwaukee Avenue in Vernon Hills. Steinhafels also opens stores in Appleton, Oak Creek, Madison East, Greenfield, and Crystal Lake.

2021


Andrew Steinhafel becomes 4th generation President and opens 3rd Illinois location in Downers Grove.

2021


Steinhafels announces that it has sold all of its stock to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), making the company 100% employee-owned.

Steinhafels opens a store in Green Bay, Wisconsin, and plans to open 3 new locations in Illinois - Harwood Heights, Orland Park, and Schaumburg.
