Steinhafels opened their doors in Milwaukee, WI in 1934 as a family-owned company and remained a family-owned company until 2021. Today, Steinhafels is 100% employee-owned and continues to expand and grow bringing new jobs to the region. The Steinhafel family members continue their committment to the Steinhafels brand and remain on the board of directors ensuring the long standing family values remain part of the Steinhafels brand.
Steinhafels currently has 10 furniture and mattress locations as well as 5 mattress only locations. Steinhafels continually looks for opportunities for growth and expansion. In fall of 2021 Steinhafels will be opening a new superstore location in Downers Grove, IL and in 2022 a superstore location in Green Bay, WI.
Steinhafels has one of the best in-house health and wellness programs in the area and is proud to be awarded “Top Workplace” year after year by the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal.
We have been committed to sustainability and environmental sensitivity for years. Our distribution center in Waukesha recycles cardboard, plastic, wooden skids, paper, mattresses, and florescent light bulbs. Steinhafels also recycles furniture and electronics, and donates usable pieces to charitable organizations.
We recycle enough electronics in a year to reduce Green House Gas Emissions by over 1500 pounds! Toxic Metals are also diverted and recycled in this process leading to a reduction of 385 pounds.
We utilize state of the art LEDs in the distribution center and in our showrooms.
Occupancy sensors ensure more efficient use of resources.
We are using the latest technology to make sure our HVAC system runs as efficiently as possible.
Overall, we are seeing a savings of 38% on energy usage.
We recycle almost 1,000 tons of cardboard a year, which saves 3,700,000 lbs of lumber & 24,000,000 gallons of water. We recycle 80,000 lbs. of plastic a year! Did you know it takes 400 years to breakdown plastic in a land fill.
We have natural gas service tech vehicles, and we are exploring using natural gas delivery trucks in the future.
Steinhafels does not like to stay hidden behind the doors of its stores across the region. We strive to become part of the communities we serve. Each year, Steinhafels partners with more than 100 local nonprofit organizations. We support our local communities through: Employees’ interests, company-supported organizations, and holding blood drives--just to name a few!
The Steinhafels Superstore donated some mattresses and recliners to the Flight For Life advanced life support and critical care ground service care facility, so local heroes would have a comfortable place to relax after serving the community.
Steinhafels is the proud recipient of the Special Spaces 2019 Community Partnership Award. Special Spaces Wisconsin helps to create dream bedrooms for children with life-threatening conditions. Steinhafels has partnered with Special Spaces since 2012.
Steinhafels hosts blood drives at its Waukesha location to encourage employees and the community to give the gift of life by donating blood. Versiti provides all the blood needed by patients in more than 50 hospitals and 29 counties. Every blood donation has the potential to save up to THREE lives!
Steinhafels has a partnership with ACTS Housing in Milwaukee. Recently ACTS celebrated its 2,500th homeowner. ACTS Housing helps prospective homeowners in the inner city rehab vacant homes, and become homeowners. Steinhafels is committed to helping people create the homes of their dreams.
Steinhafels is proud to team up with the Salvation Army and CBS 58 every year to collect toys for local children in need. All toys donated are included in the “Toy Shop,” which utilizes hundreds of volunteers to sort toys and assist parents with their holiday shopping. Thank you to all of our generous shoppers who donated!
Steinhafels is a major sponsor of "Race for the Cure" - Breast Cancer Research. We participate in Milwaukee and Madison, where we are founding corporate sponsors. In 2019 Steinhafels donated $35,000 to Susan G. Komen, thanks to the generosity of our customers during our annual Breast Cancer Sale. Over the the years, we've donated a total of almost $500,000 to Komen and the fight against breast cancer.
The Fisher House Foundation provides a network of comfort homes, where military and veterans’ families can stay at no cost while a loved one is receiving treatment. Steinhafels has donated more than $250,000 towards providing a 'home away from home' for military families that have a loved one receiving treatment at the the Milwaukee VA Madical Center.
Steinhafels has partnered with Goodwill Industries for years with our Dining Room and Bedroom Trade-In events. These offer customers the chance to donate their used items that we then deliver to Goodwill Industries of Southeastern Wisconsin for sale to support Goodwill’s mission of providing training, employment, and supportive services to people with disabilities or disadvantages.
Steinhafels has been associated with Meta House since 1996. Meta House provides women with substance use disorders and their children transitional living facilities, job development, and childcare. They help young families gain independence and live self-sufficiently. Steinhafels Furniture has donated furniture and accessories to Meta House totaling over $200,000.
Steinhafels has been taking part in Design For a Difference in Madison. The focus is design makeovers for charity facilities that help children and families in crisis.
Steinhafels helped the Ronald McDonald house with over 50 mattress sets. The Ronald McDonald house provides a "home away from home" for families of seriously ill children receiving treatment at nearby hospitals.
Steinhafels partnered with Tempur-Pedic to donate mattresses and frames to Kathy's House. Kathy's House is a nonprofit organization providing affordable housing to patients of all ages and their caregivers who need to travel to Milwaukee for medical care.
Coats for Kids is a passion project that Steinhafels has supported for years. The program is a community-wide effort to collect new and gently used coats for children in Milwaukee’s inner city. Steinhafels has always been committed to community..
